THIS year marks a milestone for homegrown natural latex mattress company Getha as it celebrates its 50th anniversary with newly adopted furry family members.
Getha has contributed RM50, 000 to Zoo Negara to support the wellbeing, conservation and maintenance of five orang utan – four Bornean and one Sumatran.
Named Gunta, Kathy, Manja, Punky and Choki, these shaggy reddish fur apes are aged between 10 and 29 years old, and reside in an open-space enclosure of the zoo.
Getha business development director Amelia Tan said the meaningful initiative was the company’s first initiative with wildlife.
“Working together with Zoo Negara is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to learn about our ecological society.
“It was truly an eye-opening experience to get a closer look into the diet, care and habits of these animals as well as the importance of conservation and creating a sustainable ecosystem for future generations.

“This programme is very significant to us as it motivates us to continue promoting a green lifestyle, ” she added.
Tan presented a mock cheque to Zoo Negara public relations, marketing, customer service and education director Linda Salim after a media tour around the zoo.
The adoption programme was part of the various corporate social responsibility initiatives carried out in celebration of the company’s 50th anniversary.
Linda said the maintenance cost for one orang utan was about RM13, 000 a year and there were currently nine orang utan in Zoo Negara - four Bornean and five Sumatran.
“We are very glad that Getha has come on board to support the orang utan conservation efforts.
“We hope more companies will come forward to help sponsor the care of our animals, ” she added.
Meanwhile, Getha has also launched The Latex 99, a special mattress model to commemorate its golden jubilee.
Customers can enjoy a special 50% discount and exclusive freebies with the limited edition mattress, which retails at RM10, 999.
The Latex 99 is available at all Getha 22 showrooms nationwide and authorised dealer stores.
